(More customer reviews)It is totally unfair for the other reviewer to rate this product as a 1 when it is not the fault of the manufacturer that the bottle received was broken. Thus, they did not even try the product.
I bought 6 jars of this particular brand, while I didn't order it through Amazon, it is the exact same product and I feel it would only be right to offer a tried and true review.
From where I ordered this, all jars came individually bubble wrapped and I had no issues whatsoever with any broken jars. I was impressed with the way they were packaged, great care was taken so I wouldn't have the issues the first reviewer had.
The reason I bought this product is that I am a hard-core user of agave nectar. I use it exclusively in my baking. Some of my recipes call for molasses. I would always use the agave in place of molasses. When I found out about Yacon syrup I knew I had to give it a try. It imparts a totally different flavor than the agave, it's a deeper and more poignant taste than agave and DEFINITELY makes a difference in taste. I've used it in my baking of a dark russian bread and also in dark pumpernickle bagels - my Mom had been wanting me to make a dark bread for her forever and I finally did - she said it was better than anything she had ever expected, and imagined. I've also used it in baking quick breads. In the future, it will be used wherever molasses is called for.
If you are familiar with agave and it's taste and consistency, yacon has a much stronger taste and is a lot thicker than agave. Where I can say that I think agave tastes somewhat like corn syrup, I really don't know what I can compare Yacon syrup to. I don't know what molasses tastes like. But, for me, and others who have tasted what I've baked, it seems to work great!
My reasoning for offering a 4 star rating is only due to price. Yes, this stuff is expensive, much moreso than agave, but agave was expensive when I started using it over 7yrs ago when it was not easily known about or easily found and I'm hoping this too will come down in price. Luckily, where I bought it I had a coupon and free shipping, so it made it even a better find. I'm glad I bought it, all 6 bottles! I will definitely purchase more whe I run out.

Yacon is a distant relative of the sunflower with edible tubers and leaves. Th syrup from this sweet root is raising eyebrows in the medical community and natural product world for its medicinal qualities. It contains fructooligosaccharides (FOS), which pass through the digestive track unmetabolized, providing few calories1. The sugars, however, are metabolized by the bifidobacteria in the large intestine and contribute to improved digestions and absorption of vitamins, such as B-complex. The undigested portion of yacon serves as prebiotic-food for "friendly" bacteria. Other benefits of FOS supplementation include increased production of beneficial short-chain fatty acids, such as butyrate, increased absorption of calcium and magnesium and improved elimination of toxic compounds. Preclinical studies indicate an increase in bone density after consumption of FOS. It may help diabetics regulate and normalize glucose levels in the blood due to its FOS content. It is considered hypoglycemic and holds promise as a sweetener for diabetics and others who choose not to consume sugar.
