I don't know much about using these for diabetes management, but if you are using these for Atkins' dieting (ketosis) hurry on down to WalMart and buy the Relion brand for less than seven dollars and NO S&H.

URS Urinalysis Strips For Ketone - 100 ea Review

These were a great price, but were not consistently accurate. They show a negative reading where it should read positive. I found an old review online of someone else who had this problem. The ReliOn brand I get from Walmart are better, a little more expensive. I did compare the two several different times.

Test Medica KIDNEY SCAN 2 TEST Review

Test Medica KIDNEY SCAN 2 TEST

Although this urine protein test should not take the place of a physical exam, if you are anxious about your kidney function, for whatever reason-and wish a quick assessment without expensive lab tests- this is the way to go. If your test shows an abnormal protein problem, it gives you a solid base for a consultation with your doctor. If the test is entirely normal you can relax. The assessment is made by comparing the color of the end of the dip stick with colors ranging from yellow for normal with gradations in green up to a blue-green. The little test should tell you what you need to know for starters and you can take it from there or drop the issue if there's no problem!

Kidney Home Scan This test checks for protein in the urine. A positive protein test may indicate a kidney not functioning properly. If protein is present in the urine more testing is required because the normal construction of the kidney prevents protein from being lost in the urine. A urine protein test is used to detect the presence of protein in a person's urine. Normally, protein is not excreted in urine because the protein molecules are too large to pass through the filtering membranes in the kidneys. If these filtering structures are damaged, protein escapes. The presence of protein in the urine is an important indicator of kidney disease. The presence of protein may indicate: Kidney disease, such as chronic renal failure, a form of kidney failure. Diabetic nephropathy, a complication of diabetes in which the kidney cells are damaged. Kidney injury Macroglobulinemia -a serious disease of the plasma causing bleeding tendencies, weight loss, blurred vision, and disease of the lymph nodes Multiple myeloma, or a tumor in the bone marrow Amyloidosis, a disease in which starch-like substances are deposited in the tissues and organs of the body Congestive heart failure, a condition in which the heart does not pump enough blood to the body tissues. Severe muscle exertion. Renal vein thrombosis, which is a blood clot in the vein carrying blood away from the kidney. Bladder tumor or bladder cancer. Pregnant women are routinely tested for protein in the urine during prenatal visits to the healthcare provider. Protein in the urine during pregnancy can indicate preeclampsia, a serious condition that can cause high blood pressure in the mother.

Rapid Response 10 Parameter (10SG) Urinalysis Reagent Test Strips, 100 Strips/Bottle Review

Rapid Response 10 Parameter (10SG) Urinalysis Reagent Test Strips, 100 Strips/Bottle

I am prone to urinary tract infections and these strips are an economical way to test frequently, and they are accurate for that purpose (I haven't used them for any of the other parameters). They are much more economical to use than the Azo strips that cost about $3 each.
I can't understand why people complain that the colors run together if you don't hold the strips horizontally. All you have to do is follow the instructions, folks! Hold the strip horizontally! What's the big deal?
It's important to time the test accurately. I use a kitchen minute timer. A certain level of leukocytes in the urine is normal, and you'll get a false positive if you leave the strip for much longer than that. (The test is for leukocytes, not bacteria - leukocytes are white blood cells, which are the body's response to infection.) It's designed to be accurate at two minutes; be attentive to that instruction.
For people prone to chronic UTIs, I highly recommend Cranstat, a blend of herbs and cranberry extract. I take this at first sign of trouble on test strip, and the test always clears in a day or two. Much better for you than repeated use of antibiotics. However, if you wait too long and the infection becomes acute, Cranstat may not work. That's why I test at least once every three days.
