(More customer reviews)Overall, these are very nice socks...I wear them around the house "barefooted" [no shoes], and also in Nike walking shoes for treadmill workouts. I am not diabetic, but have very large ankles/calves; typical crew-length athletic socks can mark & constrict my calf. These MediPeds socks are not constricting at all.
First of all, these socks are light-weight, and knit with a fairly loose weave (hope I said that right). The bottom/sole part of sock is slightly thicker (advertised as a "cushion sole" on the packaging), and has a different weave pattern, than the upper foot part. Still, the "foot" of the sock is quite thin overall...much more like a sock liner than a cushioned athletic sock. I wear an 11.5 EE New Balance shoe, or a 11.5 EEEE Nike shoe, and there is still capacity remaining in this "Large" crew sock.
The toe seam is minimal, and flat.
The "leg" portion of the sock begins at mid-ankle, and extends up for 6 inches. This has a very loose, almost airy weave, and it can stretch considerably. My calf at the top of the sock is 17 inches, and there are several inches of stretch left.
Strangely, the labeling on my socks indicates less cotton (only 25%), with the remainder 27% being acrylic [the percentages of COOLMAX/polyesester, nylon, and spandex are the same]. Perhaps I got an older production run...as I said earlier, I do use these socks for working out, and they function well in wicking moisture.
My only long-term concerns might be durability...these socks are quite thin, so they may only have an average lifespan. Also, the open weave makes them more prone to snags. As a note, these socks are over packaged, with cardboard stiffeners, cardboard fold-over labels, paper stickers, and twin plastic "stays" in every pair (I was sent individual/single pair socks; the 2-pair pack has slightly different packaging).
Overall, great w-i-d-e foot & EXTRA w-i-d-e top socks, great for those of us with wide feet/ankles/lower legs.
