(More customer reviews)At first this seemed like an awesome medical ID bracelet - and I thought it would be far superior to the Medic Alert bracelet that I have worn for 10 years, especially since my medical situation has changed in some really important ways. I mean, how cool is it to be able to enter ALL your medical information, medications, medical conditions, previous surgeries, history, everything and have it immediately accessible, right?
WRONG! Depending upon the computer program and OS, this USB may or may not automatically pop up - and with epilepsy, time is brain - so I can't afford for some EMT or ER doctor to try to fiddle with the computer while he/she tries to treat me.
WORSE YET - you CAN'T PRINT OUT ALL THE INFORMATION!!!! HOW DUMB IS THAT?! Seriously, imagine me in a seizure, I can't communicate, some assistant is trying to get the USB to open up, when she/he finally does, she/he can't print out the information and must write it all down by hand?!? Because of all the different sections, will anyone even notice that I have a VNS implant and can't have electrical stimulation? That CPR is a much better alternative for me that a shock to restart my heart? OR which drugs are just going to make my seizures worse? Or that I am allergic to penicillin? Or have time to write a note to the doctor to tell him/her all of the 12 medications I am taking?? There are five different screens you have to tab through to even find the information, will the assistant (once they figure out how to start the USB drive going - it doesn't pop up automatically on my computer) even know which pages are the most important? And how much time will be wasted while my brain is dying? NO THANK YOU! Even the stickers that come with this bracelet are useless - I can only put one on there - so which disease is most important? Seizures or Diabetes? Either could render me unconscious or unable to communicate.MACX - FIX THESE DESIGN FLAWS BEFORE IT KILLS SOMEONE! MAKE IT SO IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY OPEN UP IN ANY OPERATING SYSTEM AND PRINT OUT WITH A BIG, OBVIOUS PRINT MEDICAL INFORMATION BUTTON ON THE SCREEN.
I am just going back to Medic Alert to have a new bracelet engraved saying Epilepsy, Diabetes, VNS implant, drug allergies, hypertension, etc, because frankly, a phone call to Medic Alert will be much faster than having someone try to figure this thing out. You can't even use the PRINTSCREEEN button to get it to print, and when one of my doctors tried, it just crashed out his computer.

I take a pretty complete vitamin regemin, including thrice-a-day Flaxseed and CLA, which are very large pills. This lets me carry a full days pills in one, compartamentalized container without a problem. My only gripes are that the closure is very minimal, resulting in open compartments in my pockets sometimes, and that I had to pay as much to ship the darn thing as I did to buy it.

Medi-Chest - Pill Organizer Dispenser Planner by Apex Healthcare Products Review

(More customer reviews)As of 2009, after 4 years of testing, I continue to prefer the LARGE Medi-Chest. Nothing has broken on any of the 5 units and the removable daily case is great for making day trips or going out hunting, fishing, canoing, or golfing.
These have met the test! They still snap shut tightly and no compartments have lost their tops due to stress fatigue from opening and closing them.
Just as importantly, I can carry my plethora of cardiac, kidney, prostate and arthritis medications in one daily container when I go golfing, fishing, hunting or canoing. If a compartment does just happen to open, it sure beats trying to pick up a week's worth of meds from the golf course and put them back in the right compartments!
2009 NOTE: I ordered two more units FROM AMAZON so we can travel more than a month at a time.

Apex Medi Chest Large Review

(More customer reviews)I have been using this medicine chest for 7 or 8 years. I take a plethora of vitamins and supplements, including the big pills like fish oil. I have never had a problem with all my pills fitting. There is a smaller version of this product, which also has removable sections, and my pills would not fit in that one.
Each morning, I pull that day's section and take it to work with me. After a number of years, I noticed that some of the "doors" on my original chest didn't click closed and hold as securely as they did--sometimes a door would pop open and spill in my purse--not a big deal to scoop up 4 or 5 pills. Nevertheless, I purchased another. If I am traveling, I take out the days I don't need and leave the rest in the tray, then put the entire tray in a ziplock bag.
I found the advantage to having 2 units was that I didn't have to fill as often (which I hate to do--not a big deal to most people, just one of those chores I don't like doing). I've considered purchasing a 3rd and probably will at some point.
I cannot find this exact product anywhere but on Amazon. I purchased my original years ago in a drugstore, probably Rite-Aid, but have never found it since. I LOVE the convenience.

It's like a Qbook, but small enough that you can take with you on travels (like when doing rotations or if ur trying to do Step 2 while interviewing) to give you practice with questions when you don't have access to an online Qbank. Has imaging questions too!

NMS Pediatrics (National Medical Series for Independent Study) Review

(More customer reviews)This book is more in depth than blueprints pediatrics. A lot more pages to go through so you have to be disciplined. The best part is they start from step one and explain concepts. Versus blueprints which seems to assume you already know the concepts and they point out the more important details to know for Step 2. The neonatology and cardiology sections were great, so I read them instead of the corresponding sections in blueprints. I think there are a lot of wonderful sections to read to get a good foundation on pathophysiology. Some NMS books (like NMS Medicine) have come out with the 5th edition 2004 - which has a nicer layout, larger book size, easier on the eyes, and some nice algorithms & tables. You might want to wait for the 5th edition of Pediatrics.

(More customer reviews)This book was recommended by my ob gyn and can I just say - thank goodness it was! I really take issue with the doula's review below, and feel that she skimmed the book instead of taking the time to read it.
For example, he doesn't say that you should not increase your water consumption, but rather dispells the myth that you have to drink 8.5 glasses a day. He also goes into detail why things like changing the cat litter, eating sushi, and drinking coffee and occasional alcohol are actually not the horrid things that we've been told, and more importantly ( I thought), he told you what the actual studies were that gave people the info in the first place. In one example, he cited a study which followed 100,000 women who drank less than 2 units of alcohol a day. Not one of the babies born to these women showed any ill effects whatsoever.
But he also stresses that smoking is incredibly harmful and should be eliminated completely.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is pregnant or wants to become pregnant. A stressed out mother can be more harmful to the unborn child than one who is happy and confident in her choices.
