Updegraff, for whom I have the utmost respect and regard, corresponded with Dr. Kraft as he wrote this book to compare notes with his own experience in his long career of following diabetes in his own practice. Chapter 14 of the book allows the reader to understand that "the onset of Type 2 Diabetes probably occurs at least 12 years before clinical diagnosis." Dr. Kraft's extensive research conclusions now give people the opportunity to talk to their physicians for appropriate testing which will unmask a pre-diabetic state with all of its future consequences. This is a huge heads-up for which everybody should be tremendously grateful.
